Running up that relay – join the mini miler

by Alison Cornmell

On Day 3 of Knowsley’s Sporting Legends Relay (Wednesday 20 July) everyone is invited to King George V playing fields in Huyton to take part in a mini miler.

On from 2pm to 6pm, the FREE family event will give you the chance to  stretch your legs. From a light jog to an intense sprint, you can run at your own pace on a mile long loop of the site. And if you need some musical vibes to get up on your feet our very own DJ bike will be there to play some motivational tunes.

At 2pm Sporting Legend Steven Jennings, former Tranmere Rovers player, and local legend Mike Dooling, dedicated Liverpool Harriers runner and torch bearer at the 2012 Olympic Games, will hand over the baton to pupils from Altbridge Primary School and Malvern Primary School who will then run a mile with the sporting legends and the day’s elite group – Kirkby FC players.

And if all that exercise makes you peckish, soft drinks and snacks will be able to be purchased on site.

Entry is FREE and we welcome walk-ups but why not CLICK HERE to book to get event updates straight to your inbox.

King George V Playing Fields can be found on Longview Lane, Huyton. Parking and toilets are available at the Purple Hub next to the playing fields.

More about the Knowsley Sporting Legends Relay

From 18 July to 23 July, Knowsley will host a week-long celebration of sport as part of its Borough of Culture events programme. Whether its running or cycling, boxing, dance or football that you love, this summer is the time to celebrate!

The Knowsley Sporting Legends Relay will travel the length of the borough with support from local communities, sporting groups, local sportspeople and even the odd famous face popping up. The 6-day showcase event will celebrate Knowsley’s rich and varied sporting heritage, as well as its past, current and future sporting heroes.

As well as the Mini Sporting Village, there are plenty of other opportunities to get involved from mass toddles and heritage walks to a Super Sports Day. You can read more and register to take part here www.cultureknowsley.co.uk/sporting-legends-relay/
