Improvement works at the Auto Safety Centre Stadium, Prescot Cables FC’s home ground, have been completed.
With support from Knowsley Council, the club secured £138,750 from the Premier League Stadium Fund to make a number of improvements. A total investment programme of £200,000 has delivered:-
- Replaced the stadium’s pitch perimeter fencing with a modern new barrier fence
- Levelled, widened and tarmacked the pitch-side hardstanding areas
- Purchased and installed two new modular toilet blocks for spectators
- Created a new away supporters area including new perimeter fencing and lighting and an additional turnstile entry system, allowing segregated entrance for away supporters for selected fixtures.
- Created a first aid room for players and officials in the changing area
This work means that the club has satisfied the requirements of the Football Association’s Ground Grading criteria for Step 3, meaning they have backed up their excellent performances on the pitch over the past two seasons with a significant upgrade off the pitch which will allow them to continue to play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division next season.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, recently visited the club to see the works that had been completed. He said “The Council made the bold decision to step in and support Prescot Cables FC financially back in 2021 when it’s future was in jeopardy. Four years later, it’s great to see the improvement works that have been completed at Prescot Cables FC’s ground which will significantly enhance the matchday experience for supporters as well as reflecting the club’s long-term commitment to growth and development.”
Graham Black, Prescot Cables FC Director and lead for the stadium improvement project said: ““Everyone involved with Prescot Cables FC is delighted to see the improvements at the Auto Safety Centre Stadium completed. They will provide a much improved experience for spectators and players, and safeguard our future by complying with the necessary regulations from the Football Association.

Founded in 1884 and originally called Prescot Town, the club took its Cables name after British Insultation Callender’s Cables (BICC) which was at one point one of the largest cable factories in the world and the main employer in the area.
To this day, the Club continues to play its home games from its centrally located stadium in the heart of Prescot.
Prescot Cables FC’s final home game of the 2024/25 season takes place on Monday 21 April against FC United of Manchester, with a 3pm kick off.
