Me2U celebrate moving to new home

by Cathy Sheel

Dementia care specialists the Me2U Centre have celebrated moving to their new home in Huyton with a visit from Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care Cllr Del Arnall.

The charity has opened its second day centre facility in Knowsley at the Fairclough Centre in Huyton which will be dedicated to supporting those experiencing dementia and their families.

The Me2u Centre have been operating in Kirkby for the past five years, providing a positive and stimulating environment for those living with dementia and also offering respite and peace of mind to their carers.

The centre was set up by a mental health nurse with over ten years of experience working with older people. They provide a flexible day support service that enhances individuals’ quality of life and well-being, optimising the cognitive and physical abilities of older adults with dementia so they can remain as independent as possible in their own homes.

Me2u Centre believe that, by providing a safe environment for those living with dementia, carers can feel assured that their loved ones are receiving the best standard of care while they take time out to care for themselves.

Cllr Del Arnall, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care said:

“Living with dementia can be extremely challenging, both for the person living with the condition and their families and carers. The Me2u Centre is a haven where they know that their loved ones are receiving specialist and tailored support from an experienced team.

“It’s fantastic that the Me2u Centre has expanded its offer in Knowsley, and was I delighted to visit them to hear about their great work supporting families when they need it most.”

Rosie Whittington, from the Me2u Centre said:

“We are so happy to be able to expand our provision into another part of Knowsley. Our Kirkby centre has been a great success providing much needed Dementia Care and support to our service users and their families. I am excited at the thought of now being able to offer the same level of excellent support from another part of the Borough.”

The new site provides a number of services including an onsite hairdresser or barber, a community wash house, private consultation rooms for health visitors and a wet room. They also offer a wide range of activities including gardening and flower arranging, art and craft, board games and singalongs.

Carers can take advantage of our holistic therapy sessions and carer support groups as well as expert advice on dementia care and diagnoses.
