Local resident wins at awards

by Laura Johnston

A resident from Kirkby has been recognised for her passion and dedication to care at Progress to Excellence’ annual awards this year.

Progress to Excellence, a national training provider, celebrates the achievements of organisations and individuals for their special contributions to their area of work at an awards ceremony every year.

As the registered manager of Caring Connections, a local care charity in Huyton for vulnerable people, Linda Shields oversees over 60 staff members who provide one-to-one care across Merseyside. Linda’s commitment to ensuring the highest standard of care is provided by her team was clearly recognised at the awards. Because of Linda’s passion and dedication to care, Linda won the impressive award for Outstanding Contribution to Care. Linda was up against people in the care sector from across the country, making the win a huge achievement and evidence of the great work she does.

After receiving her award, Linda said “This award means the world to me. I love my role and see it as a vocation rather than a job. I think as an industry, we need to recognise the role of Care Support workers more – they really are the unsung heroes of the local community”.

The CEO of Caring Connections, Paul Growney, said: “Linda is one truly remarkable individual who has dedicated her life to helping others in a very different sector. I think this award is a long time coming and she truly deserves it.”

Well done Linda and thank you for all of your hard work over the past 14 years you have been working in care.
