Last week, Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council and Cllr Anthony Burns, Leader of St Helens Council, met with the newly selected boys for the Knowsley St Helens Schools’ Football Association Year 7 district team.
The event, held at Next Energy‘s headquarters at King’s Business Park in Knowsley, provided an exciting opportunity for the boys to meet key community figures and showcase their footballing potential.
Knowsley St Helens Schools’ Football Association has been established since 1965, competing in both county and national competitions.
Next Energy, who specialise in energy efficiency for both homes and businesses, has been a great supporter of the association, providing significant funding that has enabled the players to represent Knowsley and St Helens with a professional edge.
Thanks to their sponsorship, the team now has access to high-quality training kits, match-day attire and essential football equipment.
Anthony Daly, Team Manager for the district team, said “The boys were incredibly proud to meet the Leaders of their local councils, and it was a great moment for them. It was also fantastic for our sponsor, Next Energy, to witness the impact their support is having on the team.”
Tony James, Chairman of Knowsley St Helens Schools’ Football Association, emphasised the importance of school football and the opportunities it provides for young people in the area. Tony said “School football is unique and vital in creating pathways for young people in Knowsley and St Helens. We are fortunate to have representation at all levels, competing in both North West Regional Competitions and English Schools National Competitions. Without the generous support of companies like Next Energy, these opportunities would not be possible. We are also incredibly grateful to the many volunteers who give their time to support the district teams, all for the benefit of the community.”
Lee McNally, Managing Director of Next Energy who grew up in Huyton shared his enthusiasm for helping young people in the local community. Lee said “As someone who grew up in the area and was passionate about football, it’s a real privilege to be in a position to offer our support to these young athletes. By providing them with the opportunity to play at a high standard, we are helping to give them the tools they need to succeed, both on and off the field. We’re proud to be able to support local talent and contribute to their development.”
The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community involvement in shaping the future of young people. With continued support from Next Energy, Knowsley Council, St Helens Council and local volunteers, the Knowsley St Helens Schools’ Football Association is able to provide young athletes with the chance to grow, compete, and represent their communities at the highest levels.
