Knowsley residents are being urged to get tested for COVID-19 as cases continue to rise across the borough.
This week the infection rate in Knowsley rose to over 100 per 100,000 for the first time since lockdown. The emergence of the Delta variant (which is 60% transmissible, including in indoor settings), and the easing of lockdown restrictions are the main drivers behind the increasing number of COVID-19 cases.
1 in 3 people who have COVID-19 will not experience any symptoms. However, they could still unknowingly pass the virus on to others.
With more and more of us of going back to work, heading out to the shops or restaurants and meeting up with friends and family, it is really important that we all do our bit to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading.
Regularly testing for coronavirus is the best way for us to identify cases of the virus and stop the spread through isolation. You should still regularly test for COVID-19 even if you have been vaccinated.
Cllr Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Heath, said: “Cases of COVID-19 are rising quickly across the borough and we all need to work together to stop the spread. It is only by stopping case numbers rising that we can confidently avoid the reintroduction of restrictions or a potential lockdown.
“At Knowsley Council we know the important role testing will continue to play as we enjoy more and more freedoms. That is why we have committed to funding Community Testing in the borough until September.
“I would urge all Knowsley residents to make use of this free service and ensure that we stay COVID safe.”
