Community groups and residents keen to celebrate VE Day in Knowsley can get some helpful tips and advice from a new event support pack.
Knowsley Council has developed a guidance package to inspire community groups to host their own activities and events to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day on Thursday, May 8. The weekend of the first May Bank Holiday (5 May) has been chosen as a nationwide opportunity for community celebration.
Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, is a national celebration marking Germany’s surrender to the Allies in 1945, which brought an end to the Second World War in Europe.
What’s in the pack?
The event support pack includes:
- how to organise celebrations, including street parties or street meets
- information about public events at local parks
- how to apply for event materials such as bunting, Union Jack children’s colouring sheets.

Where can we find out more?
Nationally, community celebrations are being led by The Together Coalition as part of the Government’s national programme to commemorate the 80th anniversaries of VE and VJ Day.
The coalition has created lots of online information and advice to help residents organise their own events and also capture their VE Day activities. People are encouraged to use the hashtag, #VE80, to promote their activities on social media.
