Last chance to register for a postal vote

by Jonathan Kearney

The deadline for postal votes for the forthcoming elections is approaching.

Knowsley Council must be in receipt of postal applications by 5pm on Tuesday 20 April.

Elections for 17 Council seats, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside take place on Thursday 6 May.

Postal voting

If you would prefer not to attend a polling station for any reason, you may wish to apply for a postal vote instead.  More people than ever are likely to opt for a postal vote this year. This is a safe and secure way to vote and enables you to cast your vote ahead of the election day.

To apply to vote by post you need to download, print and fill in the postal vote application form on the Electoral Commission website.

You should return the application to:

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council
Electoral Registration Officer
PO Box 21
Archway Road
Huyton
L36 9YU

If you know someone who would like to vote by post but doesn’t have access to the internet or a printer they can contact Knowsley’s Electoral Registration team on 0151 443 2222. You can also email elections@knowsley.gov.uk for assistance.

Voting in person

It will be safe to vote in person this year, with measures put in place to ensure polling stations are COVID-secure.

These include:

  • Social distancing measures implemented inside and outside polling stations
  • Installation of protective screens
  • Regular cleaning
  • Voters encouraged to bring their own pens/pencils.

A number of alternative venues across Knowsley will be used for polling stations this year to ensure they are COVID-secure.

Voting by proxy

If you aren’t able to cast your vote in person, you can ask someone you trust to cast your vote for you. You can find more information about applying for a proxy vote on the Electoral Commission website and on the Knowsley Council website.

If you wish to vote in the election but have not registered you can do so online.  You will need your National Insurance number to register. You must be 18 or over to be eligible to vote.

You can find more information about voting and elections in Knowsley on the Council website.
