Home Bargains has today opened a new 25,600 feet2 store on the new retail development in Kirkby Town Centre. The new store is almost five times bigger than the previous store on nearby St Chad’s Parade.
The store offers shoppers a wider range of items, including toiletries, medication, pet supplies, toys, and homeware, as well as food.
Home Bargains is the latest store to open on the new 94,000 feet2 retail development in Kirkby Town Centre, and joins the Morrisons supermarket and petrol station, along with drive-through KFC and Taco Bell restaurants which opened a few months ago.
The retail development also offers free parking for up to three hours for up to 460 cars.
Work is also now progressing on the next phase of the Council’s development plans for Kirkby, which include the construction of a multi-screen cinema alongside three food and drink outlets.
Councillor Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “I’m delighted that Home Bargains have opened a larger store in Kirkby today. I visited the site only a couple of months ago when it was an empty shell, so being here today and seeing the store fully stocked and welcoming customers was a fantastic transformation in such a short space of time.
Delivering the retail development was a priority for the Council – as well as offering more choice for residents and visitors, the overall programme has also created around 500 jobs – many of which have been secured by local people.
I’m really proud of what has been delivered so far in my hometown and I am looking forward to seeing the next phase of our development plans progress with the construction of the cinema scheme.”
