Going Online – Knowsley’s Landlord Accreditation Scheme

by Gemma Melling

Are you a private landlord in Knowsley? If so, have you got your accredited status?

How do I become an accredited landlord?

It’s now easier than ever to become an Accredited Landlord in Knowsley. Through the new online portal  landlords can create a self-service account to manage their portfolio.  Registration is simple and a landlords are able to self-certificate and add or remove properties in their own time.

Why should I become accredited?

Accreditation for landlords brings various benefits – from having a publically recognised status to receiving advice, guidance, relevant news and invitations to exclusive events direct to their inbox. Accredited landlords may also access the tenancy bond scheme and advertise their properties for free on Property Pool Plus.

For residents who already rent, or are looking to rent a home from a private landlord the scheme gives assurances about the quality of the property and the status of the landlord.

And, unlike other similar schemes the Knowsley Landlord Accreditation Scheme is free to join!

What must I do in order to become accredited?

In order to run a successful scheme there are some conditions landlords must agree to. Firstly, landlords must be compliant with all the legislation governing the private rented sector including having all necessary safety certificates. Secondly, landlords must allow access for an inspection when necessary – 10% of all accredited properties will be inspected each year. Lastly, landlords are asked to accredit all the properties they own in Knowsley that are tenanted.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said “The new, online Landlord Accreditation Portal delivers improvements to the accreditation scheme creating a modern and user friendly system.  I urge any landlord operating in Knowsley to register and take advantage of the benefits for them and their tenants.”
