KYM are launching as Vibe

by Nicola Appleton

Knowsley Youth Mutual (KYM) is relaunching as Vibe, with a new brand and approach to youth services on the 9th and 10th July 2020. Mutually led by young people and staff, Vibe continues KYM’s legacy of providing a crucial service to Knowsley’s youth.

Launching virtually on Thursday, to regional partners, and Friday in a national launch, it will cover the Vibe Theory of Change, the importance of relationships, and our young people will be talking about the impact and the changes they have experienced in 2020.

Now delivering its sessions digitally, Vibe’s team of youth workers have continued to offer support in their communities with sessions taking place digitally via Google Hangouts and WhatsApp including Family Night and INC. Vibe’s outreach team has continued working in key locations across Huyton, Prescot, Kirkby and Stockbridge Village delivering THinK health and wellbeing services to young people and the Vibe programme teams have delivered activity packs to the families of more than 70 young carers who engage with the Me Time programme.

When asked how young people were feeling during the Covid-19 crisis, 64% of the young people using Vibe’s services said that they were having less arguments with their family, while 91% felt like they had someone to talk to, demonstrating the positive impact that the organisation is having. In response to the effects of 2020 on young people, Vibe will be creating a National Network for Teenage Relationships.

Paul Oginsky, Vibe CEO said: “Young people are at the heart of vibrant communities, but both locally and nationally we are at a crossroads. To address this gap, we are delivering this renewed and exciting approach to youth services. We believe in a collaborative approach – sharing our learnings and best practice across programme design, evaluation, curriculum, and staff training.”

Cllr Margaret Harvey, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “Congratulations to Vibe on this new chapter, it’s been a pleasure for Knowsley Council to have been part of your journey so far. The voices and contribution of our young people are vital to building a resilient and forward facing borough and I’m delighted that the young people of Knowsley have access to this crucial service. ”
