Knowsley’s Fostering Service Launch New Campaign for Foster Carers

by Gemma Melling

A new advertising campaign has been launched to encourage more people to become foster carers.  Knowsley Council created the campaign to appeal to those with all types of skills, talents, and life experiences to make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people with fostering.

The focus for the campaign is The Teddy Bear, a moving animated film told from the perspective of a child’s teddy bear which depicts the journey of a child when they go to live with a foster carer.

The Teddy Bear conveys that with love and stability the lives of some of Knowsley’s most vulnerable children can be changed for the better. The film also highlights the positive impact of foster care and how equally rewarding it can be for the foster carer/s.

Knowsley’s Fostering Service have worked closely with children and young people to deliver this unique film to raise awareness about fostering.  The children and young people wanted to share their words and experiences in order to stress the mixture of emotions they have felt whilst showing the difference one foster carer can make to their life.

How can I find out more about fostering?

Many people who enquire about fostering often don’t think they will be suitable, and it is hoped that ‘The Teddy Bear’ animation film will dispel the myth that you have to be a super hero to foster.  The truth is that foster carers don’t need magical powers, if you care, have a spare bedroom and time, then you may be just what Knowsley is looking for.

If you are interested in fostering, Knowsley’s Fostering Service will help you with advice and information at every stage and you will receive training to assist you in your new role. You will also receive a generous financial allowance and 24-hour support.

For more information about the film or fostering in Knowsley call 0151 443 3958 or visit fostering.knowsley.gov.uk.

You can also come along and chat to the team and hear first hand what fostering is like from Knowsley foster carers.  The Team will be at Tesco Prescot on Wednesday 26 April,11am -4pm.
