Knowsley Youth Cabinet bake sale raises vital funds for food hub

by Guy Murphy

The Knowsley Youth Cabinet and Health Steering Group raised vital funds to support the Young Person’s Food Hub via a recent bake sale.

The hub supports young people (aged up to 30 years old) to access food and hygiene product when they are unable to afford them.

Funded by Merseyside Youth Association (MYA), the food hub is based at Our Place in Huyton and has seen a significant increase in demand recently.

The group ensured there was a balance if nutritious food options, along with the sweet treats, and ran a smoothie bike for people who wanted to create their own smoothies.

Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Health, visited the bake sale and support the group in their fundraising efforts.

Gina Weston, Participation & Health Co-ordinator, at MYA, said: “The Knowsley Youth Cabinet members are incredibly passionate about their food hub and clothes hub, and wanted to ensure it can continue to be well-stocked for the local community.

“They spent a lot of time making the treats and organising the event and it was fantastic to see Cllr Bannon come down and support them.

“I would also like to thank the team at Thrive who also provided bakes to be sold.”

Cllr Christine Bannon, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, said: “It was a pleasure to pop down to the bake sale and show my support for these fantastic young people.

“Their fundraising efforts ensure that a vital service can offer support to some of our most vulnerable young people.”

Young people aged 30 or under and living in Knowsley can access the food and clothes hub by visiting Our Place Youth Centre on Longview Drive, Huyton, L36 6EG between 9am and 5pm on weekdays.
