Knowsley doesn’t just have great parks, Knowsley has the most award-winning green spaces per person across the Liverpool City Region.
Knowsley has an impressive 21 parks and green spaces that have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag status, making it the top spot per 1,000 population in the Liverpool City Region and the second highest area to have Green Flags (behind Wirral).
The Green Flag Award recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces across the world, and nearly 2,500 are recognised within the UK. The awards scheme is an independent assessment that recognises well maintained spaces that provide excellent facilities for their local communities – recognising some of the very best parks in the country.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said:
“It’s an honour to have such incredible green spaces in Knowsley, and its testament to the effort and hard work of council officers and the Friends Groups who work tirelessly come rain or shine. They keep these parks lovely and clean, so that our residents have a place to visit, take a moment and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
“I’m incredibly proud to be living in Knowsley, which is home to 21 Green Flag awarded parks and we’ll keep striving to add even more to our list.”
With more and more evidence to suggest that green spaces have a hugely positive effect on people’s mental health and wellbeing, Knowsley Council recognises the importance of maintaining local parks for residents.
Not only do these parks offer health benefits, but they also brighten residential areas – with the vibrant green grass and trees, and they also provide home to wildlife.
