Knowsley remembers Srebrenica

by Jonathan Kearney

The Greystone Bridge over the M62 will be illuminated in green this evening (11 July 2024) to mark Srebrenica Memorial Day.

On this day in 1995 8,372 Bosniak-Muslims were murdered in a mass genocide committed by Bosnian-Serb forces entering the UN Safe Zone of Srebrenica.

Thousands of men and boys were systematically murdered and buried in mass graves. The victims, who were Muslim, were selected for death on the basis of their identity.

Today Knowsley remembers the innocent that were taken because of ethnic or religious identity and joins the message ‘Never Again’.
