Knowsley Music Festival is back for 2023

by Emily Maguire

Following on from its success in 2022, The Knowsley Music Festival returns from 8 – 18 November with another fantastic line up of musical talent from across the Liverpool City Region and beyond!

2022 launched the first ever Knowsley Music Festival, a celebration of music and artists that came from the Borough… and beyond. The line up included world renowned artists like China Crisis, Space, The Real Thing and Craig Charles, and made use of some incredible venues including the Shakespeare North Playhouse and St. Chad’s Church.

This year, the line-up includes Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band. Michael rose to fame fronting cult Liverpool bands Shack and The Pale Fountains throughout the 1980’s before forming Michael Head introducing The Strands, releasing the critically acclaimed ‘The Magical World of the Strands in 1997.

Michael Head and the Red Elastic Band released their debut album in September 2013 and their most recent album, Dear Scott which was released in 2022 was lauded by the music press. Michael has selected local artists Rianne Downey and Astles to support the show at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park on Friday 10 November.

Musician and producer Låpsley, performs at St Nicholas Church in Halewood on Thursday 16 November. Known for their poetic, electronic pop, Lapsley has curated a roster of artists for an intimate, stripped back show entitled Late Night Lillies, featuring Hannah Morgan, Immi Dash and Lazygirl, which promises to be a stunning performance in the striking church setting adorned with lilies.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “We are absolutely delighted to bring back the popular Knowsley Music Festival in 2023. Last year’s festival was an absolute highlight of the Borough of Culture programme with sell-out gigs at St Chad’s Church and Shakespeare North Playhouse. Audiences loved seeing world-class artists on their doorstep and we can’t wait to do it all again.

“We’ve got a fantastic line up again this year with a great mix of established artists and up-and-coming talent spanning all different genres of music. There really is something for everyone.”

In addition to the main music festival line up, the Knowsley Fringe Music Festival returns, with free shows taking place at venues across the borough. From Motown to Hip Hop, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The full line up will be announced soon.
