Knowsley Council is set to recognise the contribution of its local heroes with the launch of the Knowsley ‘Mayor’s Award for Volunteers’.
The Council is calling on Knowsley residents to nominate their local volunteer heroes for awards in five categories:
- Volunteer of the Year
- Young Volunteer of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
- Environmental Champion
- Good Neighbour of the Year
The nomination window is now open and closes at midnight, 31 January 2026.

By post to: FAO Stronger Communities Team (Mayors Award) Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Nutgrove Villa, Westmorland Road, Huyton, L36 6GA.
Paper applications will also be available at local community venues to ensure everyone has an opportunity to make a nomination.
The nomination will ask for the reasons why each individual deserves to be recognised with a prestigious award.
Finalists will be formally recognised at the full Council meeting in March 2026. Recipients will be presented with a ceremonial “scroll” by the Mayor of Knowsley in the presence of the full Council, providing a lasting and significant record of their achievement.
This new annual event is a direct result of the Stronger Communities Scrutiny Committee’s recent review into ‘Creating a Volunteer Network’ and aims to provide a simple, yet prestigious, form of recognition for the borough’s invaluable volunteer contributions.
The review, which concluded in November 2024, heard evidence of the significant impact volunteers have on the Knowsley community. Following this, one of the key recommendations agreed by the Cabinet, was to develop an annual recognition event.
Knowsley Council Leader Cllr Graham Morgan said: “The ‘Mayor’s Award for Volunteers’ will celebrate groups and individuals who have made a big difference to local life.
“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our borough. Their selflessness and dedication keep vital community services running and help improve the quality of life for countless residents.
“This new Mayor’s Award is an important step in formally acknowledging that value. We urge everyone in Knowsley to take a few moments to nominate someone — an individual or a group — who deserves this special recognition.”
