As part of Knowsley’s 50th anniversary celebrations and to mark Black History Month in October, Knowsley Council is commissioning a short film to uncover and share the untold stories of Black families who have lived in the borough for over 50 years.
The project – which is entitled ‘Here for GOOD’ – has been created and led by the Knowsley Council Black and Minority Workers’ Group whose aim is to influence cultural change, promote respect and value of cultural diversity within Knowsley.
The group are appealing for Black families from Prescot, Cronton and Whiston to be a part of this unique film, which will be showcased on the council’s YouTube and social media channels during Black History Month, in October.
Participating families will be filmed for approximately one hour, either at their home or at a location of personal significance with the interviews based on this year’s theme for Black History Month and celebrating 50 years of Knowsley.
The theme for Black History Month 2024 is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’, recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture, sharing untold stories and recognising the often-overlooked contributions and achievements of Black individuals, both in the UK and across the globe.
