Knowsley Council welcomes Ukrainian guests to the borough

Ukrainian guests who moved to Knowsley as part of the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme were officially welcomed to the borough last month (19 July).

At the event, which took place at Our Place in Huyton, the guests and their sponsors met with Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, and other officers from Knowsley Council and partner agencies who welcomed them and thanked their sponsors for providing accommodation in their homes.

The aim of the event was to bring Ukrainian guests together, help them connect with each other and create a support network to help the settle in Knowsley.

A number of local agencies, covering the likes of housing and employment, were also at the event and attendees could speak with them and find any information.

Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said: “It was both lovely and sobering to meet with the Ukrainian refugees who now call Knowsley home.

“While I am delighted to welcome them to the borough, I am also very aware that these people are innocent victims of war and have fled their lives back home in order to find safety.

“Knowsley is a fantastic borough and home to lovely, welcoming residents and I am sure that the refugees who have moved here over past few weeks will feel that friendliness and compassion as they begin to build their lives here.”
