This February 2023 marks the annual month-long celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) history.
As part of Knowsley Council’s commitment to making positive change in the borough for its residents it will mark this important month in the global calendar.
At the start and end of the month, the Greystone Footbridge and Archway Road Railway Bridge will be lit in rainbow colours. The month will also culminate with the LGBT+ flag being flown outside the Huyton Municipal Building and the Kirkby Centre.
In addition, Knowsley’s Library Service will offer opportunities for people to explore this year’s LGBT+ History Month theme of ‘Behind the Lens’. During February library members can explore the extensive literary collection and learn more about LGBT+ history and literature. More details of this will be announced soon.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said:
“We are committed to building safer, more inclusive communities and celebrations such as LGBT+ History Month gives us the opportunity to celebrate the LGBT+ community. It’s fantastic that we will be displaying our support and giving residents the chance to use our resources to explore LGBT+ history.”
