Knowsley Council launches new domestic abuse campaign – Is This You?

by Guy Murphy

A new domestic abuse campaign aimed creating lightbulb moments for people unaware they are living in a domestic abuse situation has launched in Knowsley.

Co-designed with Knowsley Council’s Victim/Survivor Forum, the campaign has three core narratives and asks the reader to consider if this is something they experience in their own lives and recognise the potential red flags.

The campaign also targets perpetrators of domestic abuse, asking them to consider their behaviour and to seek support if they are worried about how they treat those they love.

Domestic abuse in Knowsley continues to be a major issue, something which reflected nationally, and the Council’s domestic abuse services have seen a year-on-year increase in referrals.

During 2023/2024, Knowsley Council’s service received 1467 new referrals into the service and provided support to 1403 residents.

The campaign

Over the coming weeks, Knowsley Council will be working with partners, community groups and other local services to share information on the campaign, providing digital and printed assets to use.

The Council will be investing in a social media advertising campaign across Facebook and Instagram.

A digital advan will be touring the borough featuring the campaign on the 26 November.

Printed materials will be available across Council owned buildings, including Volair sites and libraries.

Outreach work will also be taking place across the borough.

Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “Today we launch a brand-new domestic abuse campaign that aims to get residents to consider behaviour in their own relationships and help them spot the signs of domestic abuse, whether they are victim or a perpetrator.

“Domestic abuse is a very serious issue in Knowsley, and we know that demand for our services is increasing year on year. However, from speaking with victims and survivors we also know that many people do not realise that they are living in a domestic abuse situation, or where to turn to for support.

“Thorough working closely with our Victim/Survivor Forum, we have been able to co-design a campaign that reflects the experiences of our residents and hopefully provide the lightbulb moment that someone needs to seek support. If that is you, our Domestic Abuse advocates are here and ready to help you.”
