Knowsley Council has appointed Andrew Donaldson as Executive Director (Communities and Neighbourhoods).
Andrew brings over 30 years of local government experience – with the last 16 years working in leadership roles. He has previously worked at Staffordshire County Council (latterly as Assistant Director for Strategy, Public Health and Prevention) as well as Bolton Council, Manchester City Council, and Wigan Council.
Andrew will be pivotal in driving forward and leading on a range of major projects, including the prestigious Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot, the ongoing development of Prescot Town Centre, and essential Council services from Environmental Sustainability, and Health and Safety through to Neighbourhood Services (including Waste and Recycling) and Community Safety.
Andrew said: “I’m delighted to join Knowsley Council at such a crucial time. We are slowly coming out of a pandemic, but I know that the pandemic has had a significant impact on Knowsley’s communities. Our recovery over the coming months and years will be challenging but I’m delighted to be joining the Council to lead on a number of services and initiatives which are pivotal to the Borough’s recovery.
“The services in the Communities and Neighbourhoods Department are valued and needed by Knowsley’s communities. Prescot Town Centre is benefitting from significant investment, which is supporting established businesses, and those who are just starting up, as well as those who are considering Prescot in their future plans. The plans for Prescot are far-reaching and there is so much more on the horizon to look forward to – from the opening of the iconic Shakespeare North Playhouse in 2022 to plans to revive the Prescot Picture House, as well as the emerging night-time economy in the town centre. I’m really looking forward to delivering the services which communities need and continuing to drive forward the successful Knowsley Better Together approach to involving communities in the Council’s work.
Knowsley Council has a fantastic track record for high quality services and delivering projects for the benefit of everyone who lives, works, visitors, or invests here. I can’t wait to be part of it.”
Andrew will take up his new role as Executive Director (Communities and Neighbourhoods) from 21 June 2021.
