Knowsley Council has launched a new video to encourage the borough’s young people to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and keep life moving.
Produced by local agency Half Cut, the video takes a look at some of the implications of being forced to self-isolate following contact with a positive COVID-19 case.
The video shifts the messaging from the health implications of being unvaccinated to the general impact on young people’s day to day lives as we learn to live with COVID-19 and keep life moving.
Around 48% of 16–29-year-olds in Knowsley remain unvaccinated. The age group also accounted for 27% of all positive COVID-19 cases in the borough during August. It is believed that low vaccine uptake and increased socialising through hospitality and events are some of the main drivers.
Knowsley Council hopes that the video will get young people thinking about the impact of being unvaccinated on their day to day lives and encourage them to get the jab.
Dr Sarah McNulty, Director for Public Health at Knowsley Council, said: “There are still high numbers of unvaccinated young people in Knowsley and that is a real worry as the number of cases continues to rise.
“As we learn to live with COVID-19, it is important that we take steps to protect ourselves and those around us. Especially with the easing of restrictions and the return of live events, hospitality and travel abroad.
“Vaccination provides the best form of defence against the virus, reducing the chances of people catching it, spreading it or getting seriously ill. Not only does it protect you, but it protects those around you, such as family and friends.
“This video looks to reinforce the important role being vaccinated plays in keeping life moving and ensuring we don’t miss out on the good times.”
Cllr Christine Bannon, Cabinet Member for Health, said: “Over the past couple of months, we have seen the return of some great events that we know many young people from across Knowsley have attended.
“However, we have also seen a rise in COVID-19 cases. This demonstrates the importance of remaining cautious and ensuring that we protect ourselves and those around us from the virus.
“This new promotional video reminds young people that COVID-19 is here to stay, and it is only by getting vaccinated that we can live with the virus and reduce the impact on our lives.”
Sacha Lightfoot, Co-Founder of Half Cut, said: “At Half Cut we decided to try to keep the video light-hearted as young people tend to react better to being given advice in a manner that’s on their level. We wanted Dave to be relatable. We all know a ‘Dave’, some of us are ‘Dave.’ Hopefully the video encourages people to go out and get the vaccine!’”
