Knowsley Children’s Centres can now offer one-year-old health checks

by Gemma Melling

Knowsley Children’s Centre Service is the first in the country to obtain a licence to complete children’s 12 month development check questionnaires, known as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire or ASQ-3.

The service is now working in partnership with North West Boroughs Healthcare, who provide Knowsley’s Health Visiting Team, to complete children’s 12 month developmental checks.

It means any Knowsley children who do not attend their 12 month developmental check with their health visitor are given an extra opportunity to complete this with their local Knowsley children’s centre.

Children’s centre staff can also carry out the checks in private nurseries if this is the best option for the individual child.

The service has worked with North West Borough Healthcare to implement training for children’s centre staff and produce standardised operational procedures to ensure consistent delivery.

The new joint working arrangement should lead to a higher number of children receiving their 12 month developmental check, helping improve outcomes for children and families in the borough.
