Knowsley Council is delighted to announce Cllr Ken McGlashan as its Mayor for the 2024-25 term, a significant year marking the Borough’s 50th anniversary.
Councillor McGlashan, who has been a resident of Page Moss for 86 years, has served the Knowsley community for 27 years, since his election to the Council in 1996. Since joining the Council, Cllr McGlashan served on numerous committees, contributing his experience and insights to areas such as housing, health, planning, and human resources.
From his early days as an apprentice coal miner at Cronton Colliery and a soldier in the Royal Corps of Signals, to his career as a long-distance lorry driver and business owner, Cllr McGlashan has demonstrated his strong work ethic and a deep commitment to his community.
As part of his role as Mayor of Knowsley Cllr McGlashan will oversee The Mayor of Knowsley Charity Fund which was established to support Knowsley residents. The charity fund has raised over £175,000 over the past 10 years. The charities that will benefit from the fund this year are The Northwest Air Ambulance, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, and Prescot Parish Church’s Roof Fund. These charities provide vital services and contribute significantly to the health and well-being of the community.
Cllr McGlashan’s daughter, Anne McGlashan, will serve as Mayoress for the year. Anne, a lifelong resident of Knowsley, is a dedicated educator with over 21 years of experience as a Nursery Nurse, Play Worker, and Teaching Assistant.
As Knowsley celebrates its 50th anniversary, The Mayor and Mayoress look forward to serving the Borough and representing its residents with pride. Their year will be marked by a focus on community engagement, supporting local charities, and celebrating the rich history and heritage of Knowsley in its milestone year.
