Kirkby welcomes Morrisons

by Cathy Sheel

The Morrisons superstore in Kirkby Town Centre has now been open for eight weeks and has so far welcomed thousands of visitors through its doors.

Located on the new retail development in the town centre, it offers free parking for up to three hours for 460 vehicles with a Morrisons petrol station also on-site, along with Taco Bell and KFC drive-through restaurants.  A new and larger Home Bargains store is also due to open its doors in the New Year.

Eddie Pritchard, Store Manager at Morrisons in Kirkby, has worked in retail for 20 years, the last five of which have been with Morrisons.  He said: “When I was told I would be managing the new store in Kirkby, I was delighted and knew it would be a great opportunity.

“Since we opened our doors, the community spirit we have seen here in Kirkby has been overwhelming.  I’ve had so many positive comments about the store being open, and how great it is for customers to have this supermarket on their doorstep.  People love the layout of the store, the product range, and how amazing their customer experience has been.

“Our unique Market Kitchen is a massively popular attraction offering a range of “buy and go” options for shoppers.  There are milkshakes, fish and chips, curries, and dishes of the day, including Scouse, to name just a few and the offer has proved to be extremely popular for shoppers to eat in or take out.

“We’ve also expanded our distribution – we are now available for home deliveries through Deliveroo, making our products even more accessible to residents.

“In the run up to the Christmas festivities, we have a range of events taking place including our “Naughty Elf” who is entertaining the children, choirs, a band and much more!

“Throughout the year we also have a free fruit basket in our reception area for children to pick up a fruit snack whilst shopping.

“On behalf of everyone at Morrisons in Kirkby, I want to say thank you to everyone who has visited the store and made us all feel so welcome.  We are really delighted to be part of the Kirkby community.”

Councillor Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, added: “Not only has the Morrisons store provided a much-needed supermarket in Kirkby, but it has also created lots of local jobs for local people.

“I was delighted to welcome Morrisons to Kirkby and I knew it would be a massive success – so I’m not at all surprised to find that the store has had such a warm welcome since it opened just two months ago.

“In the New Year, we have a larger Home Bargains to look forward to, as well as construction starting on the cinema scheme, including three food and drink outlets.  These are really exciting times for Kirkby and I’m delighted to be part of it.”
