The Kirkby Neighbourhood Board met last week (on Friday 20 March 2026), bringing together key community, private and public partners to lead on the Government’s Pride in Place programme.
The Board discussed:-
- A North West Pride in Place event which took place in Liverpool in January
- The Pride in Place guidance shared by the Government (including governance, funding timeline and monitoring)
- Government guidance that the Board needs to be made up of 51% of people living or working within the boundary – Kirkby Neighbourhood Board is made up of 66% of people who live or work in Kirkby
- The newly created Kirkby Neighbourhood Board website which went live earlier this month
- A review of activities, short and long-term, that are aligned to the Kirkby Regeneration and Investment Plan
On Sunday (22 March), the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board received confirmation from the Government that the Kirkby Regeneration and Investment Plan has been formally approved. The Regeneration and investment plan was submitted back in in November 2025.
An Executive Summary of the plan has been produced which can be read here.
The plan was developed following extensive consultation with the public in June 2024 and more recently from 22 September to 16 October 2025 in order to identify local priorities over the next ten years.
Kirkby has been allocated £19.5m of Pride in Place funding which aims to build stronger communities, to create thriving places and to empower people to take back control.
Informed by local feedback, the Kirkby Regeneration and Investment Plan includes a vision for Kirkby in 2036, which will focus on 3 key outcomes:-
- A vibrant town centre: a welcoming destination with a diverse offer and high-quality facilities.
- Safe, stronger neighbourhoods: secure places and community spaces that sustain activity and strengthen local life.
- Empowering people to succeed: creating pathways and opportunities for those in need.
In addition, a Kirkby Community Fund will be launched, available to local community organisations and groups to deliver meaningful support to local residents. The Board will be sharing more details about the Kirkby Community Fund in the coming weeks.
Max Steinberg CBE DL, Chair of Kirkby Neighbourhood Board, said: “It’s great news that the Government has approved the Kirkby Regeneration and Investment Plan, meaning we can now start to progress actions that will address local priorities that will start to make a difference to the people who live, work or visit Kirkby.
“This includes working with partners to bring forward projects that improve community buildings, tackle anti-social behaviour and make it easier for people to travel around Kirkby.
“We will also be inviting community groups to apply for funding through the Kirkby Community Fund to support specific issues in their local area and further details will be shared over the coming weeks on how groups can apply for a grant.”
Regular updates will be provided as the plan progresses on the Kirkby Neighbourhood Board website.
