Home Christmas and New Year in Knowsley Keep COVID safe when shopping this Christmas

Keep COVID safe when shopping this Christmas

by Guy Murphy

National lockdown has now ended and the fantastic retailers and businesses across Knowsley are open again. We want to encourage you to shop locally however it is important you remember to keep COVID safe and follow guidance when out and about

From today, the UK will return to a regional tiered system of restrictions. The Liverpool City Region which includes Knowsley has been placed into Tier 2. Across all tiers, high street shops can reopen but will need to ensure that they have COVID safe measures in place. It is really important that you follow any one-way systems, make use of sanitising stations when entering a shop and follow all signposted guidance.

Hospitality venues can also open but need to follow specific regulations. For Knowsley, this means that last orders in pubs and restaurants must be called at 10pm, with the venue closing at 11pm. Alcohol can only be served with a substantial meal.

Again, if visiting a hospitality venue ensure that you wear a mask when moving from your table, make use of sanitising stations and ensure you follow all guidance.

Remember, staff are working hard to provide great service while keeping us all safe, so let’s all do our bit to support them.

We have created some handy graphics to help you remember the basics of COVID etiquette when out and about. You will see these on our social media platforms over the coming weeks, so feel free to spread the message and share them!

Knowsley Council is also continuing to work with local businesses to ensure that our town centres are safe, welcoming and ready for business this festive season.  The Christmas lights have been switched on in Kirkby, Huyton and Prescot and we will be launching the brand-new Knowsley Town Centres Gift Card on Friday. The card will make a fantastic Christmas gift so look out for further information coming soon.

Cllr Tony Brennan. Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “I am delighted that businesses across Knowsley will be able to open their doors again at such a crucial trading period.

“I know how much hard work business owners and staff have put in to make their shops and venues COVID safe and it is only right that have the opportunity to welcome back customers.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone connected with Knowsley businesses who will be making a massive difference to our local economy this winter.”

Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “It is fantastic news for businesses across Knowsley that they are able to welcome back customers ahead of Christmas.

“However, while it might feel like things are getting back to normal, it is important that everyone remembers that the virus is still around and can quickly spread.

“Following COVID-19 guidance and ensuring that you sanitise your hands, wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing will help us continue to slow the spread of the virus.”
