A consultation is underway asking residents for their views on proposals to bring further improvements to Jubilee Park in Huyton.
The improvements could see the creation of a new 3G all-weather junior pitch, an under eight’s grass pitch, as well as additional visitor car parking and landscaping works. The consultation will include a survey and information distributed to neighbouring properties.
The proposed £800,000 project would be funded by Aldi as part of a ‘Section 106’ developer contribution, which is subject to its successful planning application for a new store on the site of the former Huyton Cricket Club on Huyton Lane.
This would be the latest phase in a series of improvements at the park made possible by a partnership between Knowsley Council, Huyton Juniors FC, North Huyton Communities Future and local residents.
In 2018 the partnership consulted local residents on proposed improvements, and in 2019 secured an £88,000 grant to deliver the first phase of work, including a new toddler play space, a new entrance on Dinas Lane, removing redundant fencing and replacing vandalised equipment, securing the pavilion and landscaping works. These works were completed in March 2020.
The proposed Aldi investment would provide an opportunity to progress with the phase two improvements, focusing on improving children and young people’s access to good quality local sporting facilities, as outlined in the Jubilee Sporting Improvement Plan. Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Jubilee Park is located at the heart of Page Moss and is very popular and well used by the local community, especially for recreation and sport. Since 2012, the park has continued to secure the prestigious Green Flag Award which recognises well managed parks.
“This is an exciting time for Jubilee Park, so we would welcome everyone’s comments on the current proposals. Your feedback will be used to shape the detailed design plans and progress the Sporting Improvement Plan for Jubilee Park.”
Please take a few minutes to complete the consultation survey. The closing date for comments is 10 July 2020.
