Invitation to join park litter heroes

by Cathy Sheel

Litter heroes from Halewood are inviting others to get involved in the regular clean ups at their local park.

Halewood Conservation Volunteers are organising regular litter picks at the park on the first Wednesday of every month – with the first event on Wednesday 6 July. The initiative is supported by Knowsley Council who supply all the equipment including gloves, litter pickers and bags.

Those interested in joining the litter pick are asked to meet the volunteers at the Halewood Environment Centre at Okell Drive, Halewood at 10am for the one-and-a-half-hour litter pick. For more information contact the centre on 0151 488 6151.

Halewood Conservation Volunteers are an active group of like-minded people who have a common interest to conserve, enhance and promote our local green space as a valuable resource for the benefit of both people and wildlife.

The conservation group meet every week on Wednesday mornings to carry out various practical tasks such as litter picks, as well as woodland management, pond clearance, footpath maintenance, putting up bird and bat boxes and habitat creation.

The Halewood group are among hundreds of residents who volunteer their time to conserve and enhance parks across the borough. For anyone interested in getting involved in volunteering in parks there’s more information on the council’s website.
