Knowsley Council’s new Recycling Engagement Team will be out and about across the borough helping residents recycle more of their waste.
The team – officially unveiled during Recycle Week (22 -28 September) – has been created to boost recycling rates by making recycling simpler and clearer for everyone.
They will be running events, workshops and campaigns across the borough, answering questions, offering advice, information, and top tips for recycling – highlighting how easy it is to recycle in Knowsley.
Residents can recycle all their paper, card, tins, cans, glass bottles and jars and plastic bottles in the one grey bin.
They will be reminding residents that recycling protects our environment by reducing the amount of waste being sent to more environmentally-damaging types of disposal, as well as conserving natural resources, saving energy, and supporting a cleaner, greener Knowsley.
Knowsley currently recycles 28.5% of its waste and the council is committed to increasing this figure to the national target of 65% by 2035. The Government’s Simpler Recycling programme which will see the introduction of food waste collections from next year will boost that figure further.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “We know our residents are keen to recycle and we would like to thank those who are already helping to make Knowsley a greener place to live. However, we still have a way to go before we’re recycling as much as we need to.
“So, our new Recycling Engagement Team will play a major role in raising the profile of recycling in Knowsley – working with residents, schools and businesses to make sure we’re all doing out bit to help the environment.”
