Improvements coming to Halewood Park

by Gemma Melling

Local councillors and volunteers have celebrated a funding boost bringing improvements to Halewood Park.

Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods Cllr Shelley Powell joined volunteers at the park to help out with their conservation activities and was updated on the improvement plans, following successful funding bids totalling £77,000.

The cash has come as the result of a successful bid for £30,000 from the London Marathon Charitable Trust as part of The Active Spaces programme – in partnership with Fields in Trust – and a further £47,000 from Wren FCC Community Action Fund .

The funding will be spent on path and entrance improvements and park visitors will be encouraged to use the improved routes by taking part in ‘Get Active’ sessions.

Cllr Powell said: “It’s fantastic that so much investment is coming in to Halewood Park, to complement the hard work and ambition of the volunteers and everyone involved in the area.

“The end result of their efforts is going to be an even more fantastic space for the community to enjoy for years to come.”

Residents will have the chance to have their say on the improvement works at the park – scheduled to take place between May and August 2019 – when plans are displayed for comment during April.
