Knowsley’s Inclusive Skills and Growth Scrutiny Committee has been considering how proposed major transport projects will impact the borough.
The Council has bid for funding from the Transport for City Region allocation to deliver four key transport projects between 2027 and 2032.
The proposed projects are in direct alignment with the Council Plan 2025-2030 and will support the three key focus elements:
- Delivering effective, high-quality services and support for residents
- Encouraging growth that benefits everyone
- Delivering targeted support to encourage fairness and opportunity for all
Knowsley Council has successfully been awarded £60m Transport for City Region funding to deliver the following the schemes for the five-year period:
Huyton Village – Improving connectivity between the bus station, railway station and village centre; demolishing the multi-storey car park and constructing a new surface level car park; delivering public realm improvements along Derby Road and Sherbourne Square.
Prescot Town Centre – Improving sustainable travel links between Cables Retail Park and the town centre along Sewell Street, Market Place and Kemble Street, including public realm improvements along these roads.
Kirkby Town Centre – Improving sustainable travel links and public realm on Hall Lane, Cherryfield Drive, Webster Drive and County Road to provide better connectivity to the town centre.
M57 J2 – Improving sustainable travel links, junction capacity and traffic flow at two busy junctions.
Members of the Scrutiny Committee were satisfied with the major projects identified for inclusion in the Knowsley element of the Transport for City Regions fund.
The full and final ratification of the programme is still subject to approval at the Combined Authority Committee.
