Knowsley Council has entered into a Grant Funding Agreement with Homes England, accessing over £19m of funding to support the council’s development plans for Huyton.
A business case was submitted by Knowsley Council and Genr8 Kajima Regeneration Ltd, the council’s development partner, for the next phase of Huyton’s development for the Brownfield Infrastructure Land Funding through Homes England.
This follows the submission of the planning application for the council’s 7 acre site to transform the council’s outdated buildings into a multi-use area including over 400 new homes, commercial space, a village green, public realm improvements, and also creating a community hub and sustainable travel hub in the heart of the town centre.
The grant funding agreement for £19.14m includes funding to:-
- Transform an empty building on Cavendish Walks into a community hub including a relocated library onto the high street.
- Deliver enabling and infrastructure works to prepare the sites for development of the future residential and commercial buildings.
- Support the public realm on the site (promoting community interaction through well connected and attractive public spaces including pathways and social spaces).
- Demolish the existing multi-storey car park and undertake site preparation works for the multi-storey sustainable travel hub on Lathom Road.
