Hoardings are being installed this week around the site which will be transformed into the new community facility in Huyton Village Centre, which will include the relocation of Huyton Library.
Located on Cavendish Walk (in the former B&M unit) this empty unit will be transformed into a new library on the ground floor, with Knowsley Works (providing employment and training support to local residents) moving into the first floor, along with temporary office space being created.
The new library will include exciting spaces for children of all ages, and adults alike, as well as the usual support and services from your local library including a vast array of books, support to get you online, access to PCs, photocopying and printing.
Existing activities and groups will also move into this new space.
The temporary office space will support the Council’s relocation as part of the wider redevelopment of the existing Council headquarters site which will deliver new homes and public spaces. A future phase of development also includes the provision of community spaces within the building, aligned to the local community’s needs.
As well as internal works to transform the space into a thriving library, the proposals also include minor alterations to the building’s exterior, improving its overall appearance and enhancing the village centre.
The hoardings being installed this week mark the next stage of this transformation.
Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “We have been preparing for these works for a number of months and now that we have secured £19.1m from Homes England’s Brownfield, Infrastructure and Land fund. we have been able to proceed quickly with our plans.
“This is a key phase in our wider regeneration plans for Huyton village centre and it’s important that facilities that are needed and used by the local community are prioritised.
“By relocating the library into the high street, it will make it even more accessible for users of all ages.”
The first phase of works which includes the opening of Huyton Library is expected to be open next year.
