Thousands turn out to see Huyton’s Christmas lights switch-on

by Gemma Melling

Huyton Village enjoyed an event filled with festive food and drink as well as live entertainment as it got its Christmas celebrations underway at November’s Huyton Live event.

The village was packed with revellers who braved the rain to watch the Christmas lights switch-on and enjoy a fantastic fireworks display over the shopping centre.

The event began at lunchtime with the lights switch-on at 6.30pm and traders saw a 74% increase in footfall throughout the day with more than 14,400 visitors coming to the village centre as a result.

As usual, Derby Road played host to a selection of food stalls selling street food and real ales. There was also a selection of festive market stalls selling handcrafted gifts and other items.

Entertainment was provided by live singers and there was also the chance to pop in and enjoy The Garish Sun, a temporary art installation which was inspired by constellations, stars and astral bodies.

The event was organised by Knowsley Council in conjunction with Knowsley Housing Trust. Special thanks also go to the event sponsors, A-Z Events Management, Brock Carmichael, Structec and Morley Associates.

You can see more pictures from the event on the council’s Flickr page.

There’s still one more chance to enjoy Huyton Live this year

December’s Huyton Live will also have a distinctly festive feel. It takes place on Friday, 20 December from 4.30pm until 8.30m and will include an array of popular street food traders, drinks, live entertainment as well as festive market stalls.
