Huyton charity supporting those living with cancer

by Gemma Melling

The Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Ken McGlashan, along with the Leader of Knowsley Council, Cllr Graham Morgan paid a special visit this week to a Knowsley charity supporting people living with cancer and their families.

Lyndale House in Huyton is one of the Mayor of Knowsley’s local charities this year. Run by volunteers, they provide a home from home environment where people affected by cancer can come to receive emotional and practical support. The charity also provides complementary therapies, craft workshops, relaxation sessions and one to one and group support.

Cllr Graham Morgan Leader of Knowsley Council commented: “Lyndale House is one of a network of amazing volunteer-run charities that exist in Knowsley and provide invaluable support to our residents. Anyone who has experienced cancer – either themselves or through a loved-one – will know that it impacts all aspects of a person’s life. It can sometimes feel overwhelming with regular hospital visits, scans, operations and treatment. Lyndale not only provides practical support to people going through this but also provides comfort and pleasant distraction from their illness.

It is clear to see that the people accessing support here highly value the time they spend at Lyndale and the connections they can make there to other people going through similar experiences.”

The Mayor of Knowsley Cllr Ken McGlashan added: “I am delighted to be able to support this wonderful charity this year and raise essential funds to allow them to carry on their fantastic work. They simply would not be able to do what they do without the kindness of volunteers and the general public so I am delighted to help in anyway I can. The amazing team here are always keen to hear from people who might be able to help them keep up their good work – from people willing to give some time to volunteer to businesses who may be able to fundraise or provide services and support.”
