Helping to tackle Violence Against Women and Girls in our borough

by Jonathan Kearney

Knowsley’s Crime and Communities team have been engaging with women and girls about their experiences using public transport.

In collaboration with partners from TravelSafe and local policing, the team recently engaged with around 50 women and girls in Huyton Village Centre to help better understand their experiences using public transport.

The information gathered will be used to implement potential measures to improve people’s experiences and make people feel safer when using public transport.

This is part of a continued drive to help prevent and tackle Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), a key element of the Winter of Action initiative.

Leader of Knowsley Council Cllr Graham Morgan, who attended the engagement session, said: “Ensuring people feel safe in our town centres and travelling around the borough is an ongoing priority for us. It is vital we gain a better understanding of people’s experiences as we work with partners to prevent and tackle Violence Against Women and Girls. During this engagement session alone we gathered 47 questionnaire responses. This information can then be used for our travel partners to help implement potential improvement measures.”
