Help tackle climate change during Food Waste Action Week

by Cathy Sheel

Food Waste Action Week (18 – 24 March) aims to raise awareness of the impact that wasting food has on the environment and how it contributes to climate change.

Love Food Hate Waste – part of The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) – is urging everyone to pledge their support and spread the word about how to waste less food. This year, the campaign is encouraging us to “Choose What You’ll Use” by buying fruit and vegetables loose instead of packaged.

Research from Love Food Hate Waste has shown that food waste could be reduced by 60,000 tonnes just by buying loose fruit and veg.

When food is thrown away we are not just wasting food but the valuable resources that went into making it including water, land and greenhouse gases.

If you are hungry for change and want to get involved in Food Waste Action Week visit the Love Food Hate Waste website for some helpful tip and advice.
