Health services say “We are open!”

That’s the message from health partners across Knowsley, who are working with local residents to build a stronger, healthier Knowsley following the pandemic.

You can still access health services over the phone, online and face-to-face – we just need to ensure we embed simple steps in our daily lives such as wearing a face covering where advised, maintaining social distancing and washing our hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water.

Please remember to use this service either via phone or online as it is proving successful during this time and is an excellent way to get help and advice on pretty much all health concerns. It also offers access to local service booking and can provide information about dentist, pharmacies and all other health care services.

General Practice (GP)

Your GP surgeries have continued to operate throughout the pandemic using telephone and video consultations wherever possible and also seeing patients face to face where clinically needed. In addition, most practices have worked together to set up assessment services for people who have or are suspected of having COVID. Three practices have chosen to ‘zone’ their surgery to achieve this separation. All practices and services are applying the COVID safe guidance such as social distancing, sanitation points, screens and so on so you can have confidence that patients are being actively and safely managed.

All GP practices are operating a telephone triage service and also in many instances you can use e-consult to access your practice – please see your practice websites for further information. If you need to be seen face to face practice staff will explain what will happen so that you know what to expect when you arrive.


Most pharmacies are now open as normal however they too are complying with the COVID safe requirements so please remember to maintain social distancing in the pharmacy and note that the number of people allowed in at any one time is limited so you may have to queue. You will be asked to wear a face covering too.

Many pharmacies also continue to deliver medication to your door.

Walk-in Centres

The NHS walk-in centres have continued to operate 7 days a week, from 10am until 6pm and access in now by telephone call during which a triage is carried out. Again, if you need to be seen face to face you will be given an appointment. Walk in Centres are also complying with COVID safe requirements so you need to follow social distancing and wear face coverings unless exempt.

Dental surgeries have now reopened with a range of COVID safe measures in place. Urgent treatments are being prioritised but you can contact your local surgery directly to make an appointment.


All local hospitals are open and are complying with COVID safe requirements. Wherever possible hospitals are using telephone and video consultations where clinically safe and appropriate however, if you are attending for an out-patient appointment or for a test please try to only arrive at your allotted appointment time because this will help to ensure that there aren’t too many people there at any time.

You will be required to follow the identified routes, maintain social distancing and wear a face covering, the hospital will explain its procedures about being accompanied.

Hospitals do still have visiting restrictions in place so please understand that the aim is to keep everyone safe.

A&E departments are open but please only attend for an accident of emergency as we need to keep everyone COVID safe.
