Halewood residents are invited to have their say on proposed active travel and safety improvements as part of the wider investment in the town.
The Halewood Investment Masterplan to deliver £30m of investment over the coming years includes improvements to walking and cycling routes across Halewood.
Under the proposals, Leathers Lane will benefit from improved public realm works that will include safer pedestrian and cycling links through to Grace Park, which is to be transformed into a high-quality multi-use park.
The Council is seeking people’s views on proposed improvements along Leathers Lane, Roseheath Drive, Barn Croft Road and Hillingden Avenue.
What is proposed?
Leathers Lane
- A new parallel crossing (for cyclists and pedestrians) will be installed near to the junction with Roseheath Drive.
- A raised table will reduce the speeds of motorised traffic on both approaches to the crossing.
- A short section of the footpath at the junction with Beechwood Avenue will be widened to accommodate a shared use footway to improve safety for cyclists.
Cyclist Road Markings
- Proposed cycle route road markings on Woodland Road, Oakwood Road, Beechwood Avenue, Roseheath Drive, Barn Croft Road and Hillingden Avenue.
Roseheath Drive and Barn Croft Road
- Installation of double speed cushions on Roseheath Drive and Barn Croft Road.
- Installation of a raised table will be introduced on Barn Croft Road at the junction with Hillingden Avenue. The speed limit of these, and adjacent, roads will be reduced to 20mph.
Hillingden Avenue
- Bollards will be installed near to the junction with Kenton Road to restrict through traffic and provide a quieter, safer route for cyclists and pedestrians travelling from Halewood Leisure Centre through to Halewood Shopping Centre.
When would works take place?
The proposed works would commence in January 2025 and would be scheduled to complete in February 2025, lasting approximately one month.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said: “Active travel improvements provide a host of benefits; improving people’s health and wellbeing, reducing congestion and pollution and making the local area more accessible to a wider range of people. Our vision is for Halewood to become accessible by foot, bike or wheelchair and we want residents from all corners of the town to enjoy the improved facilities that are being created. We’re keen for as many people as possible to have their say on these proposals.”
