Finch Woods in Halewood has reopened to the public following the completion of the first phase of major improvements to the green space.
Knowsley Council is investing £1m in Finch Woods, funded by S106 developer contributions from the East of Halewood development, as part of the wider £30m investment in Halewood.
This phase of works has created new accessible pathways, infrastructure, habitat improvements and entrance features to enable residents to enjoy this beautiful woodland all year round. A new trim trail play feature has been created and will be followed next year by a full play offer for all the family.
Finch Woods can currently be accessed from Baileys Lane, however new entrances to the Bellway “Halewood Oaks” housing development will open in 2025 once this development is complete.
A second phase of infrastructure improvements, including creation of the main adventure play area, will be undertaken in early 2025. This will also include creating entrance connections into the Redrow “The Finches” estate, tree planting and further improvements to the ponds on site.
The investment in the woodland, a key element of the Halewood Investment Masterplan, will increase its size by approximately 50%. The works will deliver major habitat improvement works to the woodlands, ponds and meadowlands, as well as the creation of new pond and wetland features that will support flood resilience in the area. The site will become a key hub for biodiversity and access to the natural environment.
The Green Space Ranger team are supporting a group of residents to form The Friends of Finch Woods, if you would like more information about becoming involved or volunteering opportunities on site, please contact our Green Space Ranger team at greenspacevolunteers@knowsley.gov.uk or call 0151 442 3682
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods, said: “Halewood residents and visitors can look forward to enhanced green space and improved facilities over the coming years and this investment will breathe new life into Finch Woods, opening it up as a high quality, usable space for everyone to enjoy.”
