New figures released this month have confirmed a boom in the number of businesses establishing themselves in Knowsley – and a rapid rise in new job creation too.
The Office for National Statistics numbers confirm that Knowsley really is leading the way when it comes to business growth, with performance figures that are the envy of the rest of the country.
Business and jobs on the rise
Since 2014, when the council agreed to refocus and accelerate its economic growth plan, Knowsley has welcomed an extra 935 businesses to the borough – an increase of 29% in the number of companies choosing to be based here. This is the highest rate of growth in the whole of the Liverpool City Region, and double the rate of growth nationally.
This increase in business numbers has also helped to provide thousands of new jobs in Knowsley each year, with approximately 6,000 new posts created during that time.
These latest figures come on the back of other local economy statistics, which the Office for National Statistics released earlier this year, showing that Knowsley had the highest rate of growth in productivity out of more than 350 places across the country – up 140% since 1997. In fact, per head of the population, Knowsley actually had the highest economic boost in the whole of the United Kingdom!
All of this is a strong indication that the council’s economic growth ambitions are having a huge positive effect in terms of jobs and enterprise.
Ambitious plans are paying off
Councillor Graham Morgan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, said:
“We have an ambitious plan based on accelerating growth, but it is also one which we always knew we could deliver successfully.
“We’ve placed a relentless focus on accelerating growth in our local economy and creating more jobs in the borough and it’s fantastic to see these latest statistics confirm that we are delivering on our commitment.
“Knowsley truly is a great place to work, live, visit and do business – and more and more businesses are seeing what we have to offer and deciding to invest here. It is fantastic news for local people, who are really benefitting from these many new opportunities.”
