Over 150 young people in Knowsley will be supported into apprenticeships this year as part of the Knowsley Apprentice scheme.
An additional 50 apprenticeship opportunities have been made available this year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on employment prospects for young people.
Grants of £4,500 are available for businesses to hire an apprentice from Knowsley, aged between 16 and 24.
The grant available to businesses – a 50% increase from 2019 – is to provide additional support to apprentices during the current restrictions.
The apprentice vacancies will go live on the Knowsley Council website in June. Interviews for the vacancies will take place in August before the apprentices begin their new roles in September 2021.
Job Descriptions must be completed and returned no later than 7 May 2021.
Additionally the Knowsley Apprentice team is launching a new programme for young people who never acquired the sufficient grades to be eligible for an apprenticeship.
Twenty jobs will be created with local employers, which will be converted into apprenticeships after six months.
The successful applicants will receive a wage and develop new skills during the initial six months, before the role is converted into a formal apprenticeship.
Employers will be reimbursed the full salary costs for the first six months for each job they create and will also be able to apply for the £4,500 grant once they convert the job to an apprenticeship.
Vacancies are scheduled to go live in the summer.
