The Government has announced that anyone breaking lockdown rules by attending a house party will be fined £800 by police, rising to £6,400 for repeated offences.
Fines will be imposed on all those attending illegal gatherings of more than 15 people in private homes and comes as Police have been forced to shut down a number of parties across the country.
The number of cases in Knowsley remains one of the highest in the UK, while nationally death rates remain above 1,000 a day.
COVID-19 is easily transmitted from person to person and that’s why its so important that interactions with other people from other households must stop. The current lockdown rules state that people should stay at home as much as possible.
Cllr Sean Donnelly, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “Despite the best efforts of the majority to help stop the spread of this virus, there continues to be a small number of people who feel the rules don’t apply to them.
“We know that one of the main drivers of our high infection rates is people moving between homes and gathering. It is important to remember that this virus is passed on very easily, can be deadly, and many people wont even know they have it.
“I urge everyone in Knowsley to follow lockdown guidance and stay at home where possible. With the vaccine programme now underway, we do have hope on the horizon but we do still have a way to go yet. I ask you to help us protect the NHS and stop the spread of this virus. Stay at home.”
