This year’s Global Recycling Day (18 March) is recognising the efforts of #RecyclingHeroes.
Global Recycling Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and encourage people to take action to reduce waste and protect the environment.
So, it’s an ideal time ask ourselves, could we do more to increase the amount of waste we recycle?
How to become a recycling hero
Recycle More: In Knowsley, all paper, card, tin cans and plastic bottles can go into the grey bin. Other items – like small electrical appliances (irons, hairdressers, mobiles), large electrical appliances (washing machines, fridge freezers), tv’s and monitors, lightbulbs, textiles can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) Find a Recycling Centre and Book an Appointment – Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (merseysidewda.gov.uk). Most supermarkets also have facilities for recycling batteries and plastic bags.
Make sure the right items go in the grey recycling bin: Make sure your recycling is left loose and not placed in plastic bags before going into the recycling bin. Placing incorrect items in recycling bins, such as nappies or textiles can ‘contaminate’ or ruin entire loads of recycling. Attend or organise local events: Community social media sites are good places to look for local events or promote any event you may be organising. There are a number of events taking place across Knowsley for the Great British Spring Clean 15 – 31 March.
