Knowsley Council’s regeneration plans for Huyton are taking another step forward following last month’s announcement of £19m of Brownfield Infrastructure Land Funding secured through Homes England.
The Council acquired the former B&M unit at Cavendish Walk in 2024, following B&M moving to another premises in Huyton village centre.
Now that the Council has secured funding to refurbish the building, a planning application has been submitted to create a new community hub in the heart of the village centre.
The proposals will see the relocation of Huyton Library to a central, high-street location which will also create flexible community facilities and spaces for leisure, skills and cultural activities.
The planning application seeks permission for a change of use from retail to a mixed-use facility.
The ground floor will accommodate the new community library and wider space for community engagement, with new office space created on the first floor.
The proposals also include minor alterations to the building’s exterior to improve its overall appearance and enhance the village centre.
