Shoppers at Hillside Road in Huyton can look forward to two new businesses opening their doors in the coming weeks.
A greengrocers and delicatessen and a ladies and children’s clothes shop have taken over the two remaining units in the area.
Both businesses are independently owned and operated by local residents who live in the neighbourhood.
Peoples Produce will be opening their first premises after trading exclusively online during the past year.
Pretty and Unique, who have been trading for a number of years, with plan to expand into home furnishings from their new premises.
Both businesses have been full of praise for the Assets Service at Knowsley for their ongoing support through the process.
Karl Lowe, Owner of Peoples Produce, said: “Liam and the Assets Service from the Council have been really good to deal with. The unit has been refurbished to a really high standard so it’s making life easy for us. They couldn’t have done more for us really.”
Karl worked in the catering industry for the past eight years. He moved into selling fruit and vegetables due to the effect the global pandemic had on the catering industry.
Karl said: “We’ve been making deliveries for the past year so I’m really looking forward to opening up the shop. It’s local to where I live so I really had my heart set on it. As well as the fruit and veg we’ll be looking to offer juices, healthy meals, fresh sandwiches, protein shakes and more.”
Joley Smith, Owner of Pretty and Unique, said: “We’ve been able to offer a click and collect service during lockdown but we’re hopeful of opening the new shop from 12 April if it’s permitted. The Council have been great with us and really hands on throughout the process. We’re looking forward to bringing affordable fashion to the local community.”
Jayne Aston, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “It’s encouraging to see businesses investing in the local area despite the ongoing pandemic. The Council is keen to help local businesses as much as they can and it’s good to see all the commercial units on Hillside Road being taken up. As well as offering more choice for local residents it will increase the footfall to the benefit of the existing businesses in the area.”
