Free testing kits for workplace collection launched

by Guy Murphy

To ensure access to regular testing is available to as many people as possible, Knowsley businesses with 10 or more employees, who are unable to set-up a testing site in the workplace, are now able to register for FREE testing kits for their workforce.

The self-administered rapid (lateral flow test) kits will be sent directly to workplaces to distribute to staff enabling them to carry out twice weekly testing at home.

Around 1 in 4 people with COVID-19 don’t have symptoms, which means that they could be spreading the virus without knowing. Lateral Flow Tests (LFT) provide a result within 30 minutes and can enable positive cases to isolate and break the chain of transmission.

Regular testing will play a vital role in helping businesses open their doors and support them to prevent break outs of the virus.

Knowsley businesses who are unable to offer workplace testing must register for the programme by 12 April. Any businesses which are currently closed but would like to take part in the programme, must still register by the 12 April to order kits in the future.

You can register online at Register to order free rapid lateral flow coronavirus tests for your employees – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

As part of the programme, businesses must ensure employees record every test result on the online government portal. There must also be robust procedures and policies in place to ensure that results are also reported to the employer so that they can ensure individuals are testing twice weekly and isolating if positive.

Employers and staff can find instructions on how to carry out a test online https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/instructions-for-covid-19-self-test

Staff who do test positive at home must, along with their household, isolate immediately for 10 days and book a confirmatory PCR test via https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or by calling 119. Self isolating is essential to prevent people passing on the virus to others.

Businesses with under 10 staff are being urged to direct staff to SMART testing sites or to promote community test collection. You can find out more about the different testing programmes available here https://www.knowsleynews.co.uk/reminder-about-when-and-where-to-get-tested/
