Knowsley Council and community partners across the borough are providing a free lunch over the summer holidays to anyone who would have received a free school meal. This is in addition to the Holiday Activity and Food programme running across the Borough.
The Government’s Household Support Fund ended in April 2026, which previously funded Free School Meal vouchers over school holidays. The Council stepped in to fund vouchers during the May school holiday and has now teamed up with community partners to provide a lunch to children who receive Free School Meals in term-time.

Cllr Jayne Lonergan, Cabinet Member for Resources, said “We appreciate how families are struggling over the long summer holidays, and with the National funding for food vouchers no longer being available, it was important that we step in to support them.
“The Government’s Household Support Fund finished in April and we did fund the May food vouchers given there wasn’t much time for residents to find alternative support.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to provide this support long-term but importantly, we can provide immediate support for the next six weeks.
“We know that the cost of living crisis is continuing here in Knowsley and, working with our fantastic community partners, we are doing all that we can to ensure that residents who do need help and support aren’t penalised and are supported when they really need it.”
